Jessica Svensden

Following my research into modernism, I decided to look at the artist Jessica Svensden.  She is influenced by fields outside graphic design, including architecture, film, literature and photography. She deliberately tries to work off the computer, and prefers using at least one analogue device in her process because it requires that she works in physical space and with physical objects. She likes the idea of creating defamiliarizing work that’s impossible to replicate, and when she works with the constraints of analogue formats, she often finds unintended, unique results. In my opinion, I think her work is very sleek and bold. Her designs are very simple yet effective.

Conclusion of Lecture

Overall I found this lecture really useful. It gave me an insight into the modernist movement and how important it really was. It also prompted me to complete research into modernist designer Jessica Svensden, who I could potentially use as inspiration for my own work.
